Happy Monday Academy of Westhaven Families! We are so excited to be back to school with all of our littles today. I hope you all had fun and got to enjoy another snow filled weekend! We have a fun week planned ahead but we couldn’t wait to tell you all about the fun science project from last week.
We were so excited to try out a new Marshmallow Science Experiment! We started with some cold water and hot (warm) water. Other than the hot water any other liquids would have worked. We used clear cups so that we were able to detect any changes in the marshmallows. We added the marshmallows to the cups of water and we observed how the marshmallows reacted differently to the different temperatures of water. It didn’t take long for the littles to notice the difference and how they reacted differently. We used this as a child led activity and It was so fun to see how each child approached the activity. Some were very hands on and others enjoyed observing. After the littles experimented with the water of different temperature, we then added food coloring to compare how the marshmallows absorbed the color. This was one of the littles favorite parts. It was so unique how the temperature of the water affected the way the marshmallows absorbed the food coloring. After enjoying our experiment, they all got to enjoy a marshmallow! It was a big hit and just so much fun! We will definitely be doing this again and expand it even more.
