Explore Weather in a Jar
Happy Tuesday Academy of Westhaven Families! I can’t believe we just finished our last week of April! We stayed busy with making Dandelion Soup, Raindrop Suncatchers, and ended our week with Dress like a Superhero day and Bike Day! It was action packed and the week flew by. We always love sharing about the littles favorite activities throughout the week and this week it was when we got to Explore Weather in a Jar!
This has always been a fan favorite and the littles get to be little scientist as it is very hands on. This is an amazing activity you can even do at home as it’s all ingredients that you have lying around the house. It’s just Shaving Cream, Blue Food Coloring and Water. We first took a clear cup and filled it partially with water. From there we had predictions of what type of weather we thought we might see during our experiment, and then they got to add the shaving cream which we used to represent the rain cloud. We got to share from our personal experiences what we seen happen when the sky filled with clouds vs. a clear day. We then added the blue food coloring and watched as the “rain” saturated the clouds making them heavy and the raindrops began to fall! It littles were so fascinated and loved watching this process. It was so easy to be able to repeat several times and everyone got a turn to see how lesser or greater amounts of food coloring effected the rain. Enjoy some of the fun pictures below!
What are some fun activities you have done with your little to explore the weather around them?
